The history of the FUSPH can be traced back to 1920s. Dr. Yan Fuqing, the founder of Shanghai Medical College, paid special attention to public health education upon launching the college in 1927. In July 1928, Dr.Yan officially established the Department of Public Health at Shanghai Medical College where he served as the founding director and professor of public health.
The School of Public Health was established in 1952 and became the School of Public Health of Shanghai Medical University, in the 1980s. After Shanghai Medical University merged with Fudan University in April 2000, it was renamed the Fudan University School of Public Health (The FUSPH).
Fudan University School of Public Health (The FUSPH) ranks as one of the most prominent institutions of public health in China, providing programs aimed at training highly qualified professionals for public health, preventive medicine and health care management, conducting rigorous scientific research and academic services, and providing evidence-based policy recommendations for disease prevention and control and health systems at both the regional and national levels.

The FUSPH has a total of 110+ faculties, including 43 professors and 36 associate professors. In addition, the school has 85+ research supervisors, including PhD, MSc, and MPH supervisors.
The FUSPH aims to promote population health, control major diseases and facilitate policy making. The school has a historically strong capacity in epidemiology, occupational health, environmental health, nutrition, social medicine, health management, as well as maternal and child health. The faculty members and staff with a variety of educational backgrounds work together on many projects and initiatives that are of high global and regional impacts.
The faculties have made prime accomplishments in the field owing to their relentless devotion and unparalleled competency. The FUSPH contributes to addressing key health issues in China, identifying health system deficiencies, formulating strategic plans and policy advice, and building public health capacity in China. Throughout the history of the school, the FUSPH has witnessed and grown with every phase of public health development in this country and received international recognition for excellence.
Our school has established extensive exchanges and collaborations in education and research with well-reputed universities from around the world, including North America (10), Europe (11), Asia (7), Oceania (7), and Africa (3).
